California Officials Baffled by 'Strange' Polio-Like Virus Found - Susanne Posel | Susanne Posel

Five children in California are suspected to have a mysterious polio-like disease that has paralyzed one or more of their limbs.

Between August 2012 and July 2013, those 5 children were inoculated for the polio virus prior to their diagnosis.

Emmanuelle Waubant, neurologist at the University of California at
San Francisco (UCSF) has been monitoring and studying this budding
phenomenon.

Waubant’s team have taken samples from 2 of the children and found the presence of the enterovirus 68; a rare virus that has been found in similar cases in the past.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has joined
the investigation into these mysterious paralytic cases. Their initial
summation is that there is no real concern to the public at large that
this disease would spread to others.

Carol Glaser, head of the CDPH commented that the polio virus “may”
have played a role in the development of this new mysterious virus.
